Early Visitor

August 26th, 2008 by Robert

As I was feeding the birds this evening, guess who appeared? This sharpshin was also looking for a feeding.

This is early. Usually they are gone from April until October. Maybe a sign of an early winter?

Saw this Great Blue Heron this morning on the Ace Commuter train tracks. Mass transit is really catching on.

Beautiful sunset - courtesy of over 1000 fires closeby. And it’s nowhere NEAR (our fire season) September…..

Hooded Oriole

June 25th, 2008 by Robert

We have a new visitor. Very rare here. I saw him the other night and posted other (not so clear) pictures on several birding forums and misidentified him as a blackheaded grosbeak. This picture proved differently.

Now I have to correct those posts…..

How BAD IS the economy?

May 22nd, 2008 by Robert

Today at work, we had a major involuntary layoff. It was an ugly, gut wrenching experience. Watching managers enter my building and tell good friends good bye and expecting the same was horrific. I had a woman with 18 years sobbing hysterically in my arms. Those same managers walked down my hallway towards me, nodded and passed by.

It’s something you have to experience first hand to understand how BAD it really is.

Don’t ask me why I still have a job.

Black-headed grosbeak returns

May 8th, 2008 by Robert

Look who’s back!!! They’re late this year. The past several years they arrived in early April on their way somewhere else. The california quail that arrive about the same time have yet to appear.

This is a strange year…..
